Consumers Turning to Mobile Phones for Directions

October 23rd, 2009 Posted in Consumer Electronics

As the mobile phone manufacturing sector continues to engineer more features into their product lineups, many consumers are growing attached to their mobile phones for more than just talking and texting. In fact, industry analysts have long predicted that the mobile phone would become one of the premiere consumer electronic devices in the world due to its ability to act as not only a communications device, but its capacity to offer other services built into the phone or provided via software packages. As mobile phone networks grow more robust, companies have sought to utilize the additional bandwidth to offer a greater range of services than would have been possible in previous years.

Increasingly, manufacturers have equipped their phones with GPS units via satellite relay systems that allow subscribers to pinpoint their exact location, then use their phones as a means to find shops and other attractions near them. Through the use of such already available online services as Google Maps, mobile phone models like the Sony Ericsson Aino are able to assist customers in getting where they want to go through detailed directions to the destinations of their choice. This improved usability of mobile phone devices is expected to greatly expand the market share for devices such as the Aino that combine multiple features consumers are demanding. Mobile industry analysts see a bright future for the both mobile phone makers and service providers as consumers continue to rely more heavily on their phones to perform more functions than merely connecting them with friends and family.
