Why Your Business Should Hold More Meetings
If you allow your executives and managers to control your company without much oversight, things can get out of hand quickly. Taking a hands off approach is wise when operations are good, but as soon as you notice that something is wrong, you should swoop in and address the issues. If you do not want to come into the office five days a week, there is still a way to keep tabs on your employees without physically being in the same room. Let your employees know that there will be a weekly web meeting to ensure that they can voice their concerns and report your earnings and expenses for the week. Many businesses already hold conference calls, but it is easy to let one or two people slip through the cracks. You can easily see who is participating and call them out during web meetings. You shouldn’t let these meeting become an opportunity to publicly berate your subordinates, but they will quickly come to their senses if they see that they will not be able to fade into the background. Web meetings can also help your employees to feel as though they are part of a team, especially when they do not get to physically see others within your company on a regular basis.
The web meetings should also serve as a way for your employees to learn about what other departments are doing, and hopefully the information shared will be implemented in other areas as well. If a particular territory has reported that one of their strategies yielded higher profits, other locations may be able to use the same strategy as well. When your web meetings begin to foster elearning, you can completely do away with corporate training programs and annual retreats. Although meetings alone may not make your company more profitable, you should hold them more often and see what the results are.
